Breakfast Smoothie

We often tend to eat an unhealthy breakfast that comprises of high sugar foods or worse, no breakfast at all. Each morning we are in a hurry to get to work or to tend after our children, so for many f us it is a normal habit to skip breakfast. There is a simple and quick way to have a nutritious breakfast each morning: making delicious smoothies.
Smoothies are extremely easy to make and they don’t require sophisticated ingredients or long preparation. The key to making a delicious breakfast smoothie is to use fruits and vegetables that are fresh and nutrient-packed. You can freeze some of them the night before if you want your smoothie to be frosty and creamy.

When you make a breakfast smoothie you don’t need to add any sugar since most of the fruits are sweet. For a power breakfast you can try a green smoothie that will provide tons of anti-oxidants and nutrients. To make your smoothie crunchier and richer in protein and carbohydrates, you can add some ground nuts and cereals of your choice.

Another advantage of breakfast smoothies is that they get rid of accumulated toxins. Sometimes our lack of energy can be caused by toxin build-ups in our digestive systems. In Ayurvedic medicine, morning is the time when your body does the most cleansing, so having a nutritious drink will help cleanse and nourish your body.

What to consider when making a breakfast smoothie?

  • Fruits that are too sweet will trigger an insulin response that might be too strong to handle first thing in the morning. Choose only one sweet fruit like banana and add other nutritious ingredients like herbs, veggies or cereal.
  • At least once a week it is good to include a green smoothie. It is full of chlorophyll, minerals and vitamins that give you an instant energy boost. A green smoothie can be delicious if made with the right ingredients. Try to avoid greens that have strong flavors like garlic leaves, thyme, onion leaves, or dill.
  • Use coconut water instead of water. It will make your smoothie much tastier and nutritious. Coconut water is perfect after work-outs due to its electrolyte content that prevents dehydration.
  • Alternate your fruits and veggies each day and you will never get bored with your smoothies. Japanese try to eat different colored fruits every day to get all possible nutrients out of each.
  • Add some probiotics to your smoothie. They improve digestion and are quite yummy. Use some organic yogurt or make your own probiotic drinks at home like Kombucha tea.
