Smoothy Tummy

Smoothies were invented as a healthier alternative to processed juices which are filled with refined sugars and additives. Since the 1970s smoothies have evolved a lot and now they are the basis for healthy lifestyles and numerous diet plans.

A smoothie diet is about replacing one or all of your meals with healthy smoothies that are rich in anti-oxidants and nutrients. There are so many diets that advertise quick weight-loss or fast detox, but some of them present health risks. Following a smoothie diet plan is much safe and easy, and since smoothies have lots of vitamins, minerals and essential nutrients you won’t be starving yourself on a smoothie diet.

Why should you try a smoothie diet?

There are a number of reasons for trying a smoothie diet. Below are some of the most important benefits that you can derive from a smoothie diet plan.

  • Weight Loss – When we think about diets, the first thing that comes to mind is weight loss. Smoothies satisfy your hunger and as long as you don’t add sugar or other unhealthy ingredients, they can easily help you lose weight. You can have meal replacement smoothies that are high in phytonutrients and enzymes, such as green smoothies.
  • Detoxify your body – The main purpose of a detox is to get rid of unwanted toxins in our digestive system. Doctors say that all disease starts in the colon and it is easy to see why. A regular detox is highly recommended to ward off sickness and to improve overall health. People that regularly drink green smoothies have reported major skin and hair improvement, better digestion, and boosted immunity.
  • Introduce more greens into your diet – It is hard for many of us to eat a proper amount of veggies every day. Smoothies are the easiest way to add vegetables and green leaves to your diet. The best part is that you can mix them with fruits for a delicious combo.
  • Build muscles and get rid of fat – Smoothies are full of vitamins, minerals, but also proteins which help build muscle mass. The best source of plant-based protein is of course leafy green vegetables, which are full of amino acids that are the building blocks for protein.
  • Improve you digestion – An improved digestion will help you sleep better, feel better and look better. Since smoothies are so easy to digest, they are a great help to your digestive system which is often overloaded with heavy foods. You can also add probiotics to your smoothie for promoting a healthy intestinal flora.

How to follow a smoothie diet?

If you are interested in replacing your meals with smoothies you should know that there are a few things to consider.

First of all, a smoothie diet is a great way to lose weight and detox but according to nutritionists it shouldn’t be extended for very long periods of time. Eating only liquids for too long can make your digestive system too lazy and can create nutritional deficiencies. A week or two is ideal for cleansing your whole body and losing weight naturally. Also, you can include some light meals in your smoothie diet, such as veggie soups or some baked vegetables to make the diet easier to follow.
Green smoothies are also a must when you follow any liquid diet. They have revolutionized the raw-food movement and they are extremely beneficial for your health. Try to include some spinach, kale, and other green leaves into your smoothies. You can mix them with fruits for a more delicious taste and creamy texture.

Lastly, make sure that you add enough protein to your smoothies. We need about 20g of protein per day and the best way to ensure you are getting enough is using nuts and milk in your smoothies. If you don’t eat dairy use almond milk, cashew milk and other types of plant-based milk. Also include ground nuts of any type in your smoothie and it will make it much more filling.

Daily menu for smoothie diet

Breakfast
Have a green smoothie in the morning for a perfect kick-start to your day. You can use banana or avocado as a base, add 10 green leaves of your choice (kale, parley, romaine, spinach etc.), and add some almond milk and ice. Blend until smooth and enjoy.

Snack
Green mango, berries or some pineapple (1 serving)

Lunch
Have another green smoothie but alternate the ingredients.

Afternoon snack
Sprout salad with walnuts or a crudité platter

Dinner
Have a cream soup which is very similar to a veggie smoothie. Use celery, carrots, green leaves, and avocado. Mix them with warm water and blend until smooth. Add juice from half a lemon, some salt or condiments and you have the perfect soup.

Precautions for following smoothie diets
If you have a chronic or severe illness, seek our doctor’s advice before you start any diet. Pregnant or lactating women should not be following any strict diets.
